Out of sync

Out of sync is a state in which corresponding data in different places does not match because changes in one place have not yet been reflected in another.

In plain English

When the same information is kept in more than one place, those versions can stop lining up. This status means the matching data is different because an update made in one place has not yet appeared in the other.

In context

As a warning label, it communicates that matching records or systems currently do not agree because one side has changes that the other side does not yet reflect.

Situation
Connecting integrations, syncing data, and running imports or exports
What it communicates
warning label showing records or systems no longer align

Meaning limits

By itself, this term does not say which place has the newer or correct data, only that the corresponding data does not currently match.

Examples

“By noon, the totals in the two stock sheets were out of sync because only one had yesterday's deliveries added.”

Core meaning

“The order record remains marked out of sync until the updated address appears in both copies.”
