LOS

LOS, meaning loss of signal, is a condition in a telecommunications link in which the receiving end no longer detects the incoming signal.

In plain English

It means the receiving side has stopped sensing any signal arriving over the link. The key point is that this is about detection at the receiving end: an incoming transmission is no longer being detected there.

In context

Here, LOS labels or reports that the ONT or modem is no longer detecting the incoming signal on the fiber link.

Situation
Installing broadband, activating service, using routers, and reading connection status
What it communicates
labels or reports a fiber-link problem on an ONT or modem.

Meaning limits

By itself, the term does not say why the incoming signal is not being detected or what outcome will follow.

Examples

“Only the receiving end showed LOS; the transmitter at the other end was still on.”

Core meaning

“During the check, the ONT reported LOS on the fiber link.”
